Hi parents! Thank you for taking the time to read my profile. My name is Gisella Collins. I’m currently studying primary education at Macquarie University and have recently finished my third year of the degree. I have nearly 3 years of experience in tutoring primary aged students and I currently tutor for two families, one of which I have been with since January 2022, and the other since August 2023. I firmly believe in fostering a love for learning through an inquiry-based approach. Through interactive and engaging activities, I strive to create a learning environment that promotes independent thinking, problem-solving, and a lifelong passion for learning. Allow me to highlight some key formal experiences that have shaped my passion for education: * 2018: Year 10 work experience at Fisher Rd Special Education School. This experience is what sparked my teaching journey. * 2021: I began my Bachelor of Arts & Bachelor of Education (Primary) at Macquarie University. [Major in Education, Minor in EC Education] * 2023: 2-week professional experience placement at Knox Grammar School in semester 1. * 2023: Volunteering 180+ hours with the learning enrichment team at Knox Grammar School in semester 2. I assisted year 3-6 students with reading fluency & comprehension, literacy skills and mathematics. * 2024: I attended the Beyond The Line program with the Department of Education in September. Having grown up with access to a private education in a large city, this was a profound experience that highlighted the differences in educational outcomes and opportunities between regional, rural & remote settings and schools in urban environments. * 2024: 3-week professional experience placement at Waitara Public School in October. These experiences have been very rewarding for my professional development as a future teacher. In addition to my educational background, I possess the following certifications and clearances: * CPR certification. * Working with Children's Check. * Child Protection Awareness Training certificate 2024 (updated). For my placement this semester I was required to develop a portfolio that demonstrates evidence of my achieving the AITSL teaching standards. I am more than happy to share this with you as concrete evidence of my pedagogy as well as following NSW syllabus requirements. It contains my Working With Children Check (WWCC) number and my Child Protection Awareness Training certificate 2023 as well as the 2024 update of this. It also includes a breakdown of syllabus outcomes for stage 2 [year 3] English, Maths, Science and Drama. In addition, the portfolio includes a colour-coded performance tracking system of 12 students [names redacted for privacy] for these syllabus outcomes, over 3 weeks, with marked examples of their work. Finally, there are lesson plans for classes that I have taught, self-reflections, and my supervising teachers’ observations of my performance in teaching these lessons. Among other insights into my teaching practice. Please feel free to reach out to me to discuss how I can support your child's educational journey. If you would like to have a look at my portfolio, I am more than happy to forward it to you. I look forward to the possibility of working with your child and contributing to their academic success. [Note: I have recently relocated to Bellingen, NSW, to gain teaching experience in a semi-rural setting. As a result of this, any potential clients living outside of the Mid-North Coast region can still benefit from my tutoring services via Zoom. I have extensive experience with using Zoom for this purpose.]
I have volunteered at a youth centre for 2 and a half years, meeting and spending time with individuals 10-18. I used my school placement work experience to volunteer at a special education school in DeeWhy which further increased my love for teaching.
