Hello Parents, I'm Sive and I'm an Irish primary school teacher who has just landed in Byron bay. I am keen to get to know people in the area and to get working. I understand it's daunting leaving your child with someone you don't know however I have ample experience with children that will hopefully put you at ease. Not only have I worked as a primary school teacher but I've worked in summer camps in Spain, been an au pair, worked as a babysitter throughout my studies and have two younger nieces who I have minded off and on since they were born. Not only that but I was working as a teaching aide in a local school in Melbourne up until very recently. I've received training in first aid and I have my working with children's check done in Victoria and will be receiving my one for NSW in the following days. I love working with children of all ages and would be happy to help out with babysitting, nannying and tutoring. I'll have limited availability until the 20th of December but after that I should have more free time. Please don't hesitate to contact me. All the best!
As part of my college training as a teacher we have modules for teaching children with special needs. I have worked in autism units and also worked as a special education teacher for a year. As well as that while I was in secondary school I volunteered with st Vincent's which is a school for children with special needs. I was paired with Mary who had down syndrome and carried out a variety of activities with her.
Altogether I have been minding children for over 10 years between babysitting neighbours to working in primary schools. My main experience would be with children between the ages of 2 and 12 however I have looked after babies as well as I mentioned previously as I would help care for my nieces whenever I was needed. I am available for nannying but it wouldn't be until the end of the school term (29th of March)
During my year as a special education teacher I often took children out in small groups or one to one who were struggling in particular subjects. This helped better my understanding of how children can differ so hugely in their learning style and it's knowing what style works for them is most important. I also tutored a nine year old boy last summer in English and maths. Having lived in Spain I could help with Spanish homework or vocab however I have never taught the subject but thought I would mention it in case this is useful to any family
