Hi all, I am a secondary school teacher from Ireland. I have recently moved to Australia and I am eager to continue working and assisting whatever way I can in the community. I have been a secondary teacher for over ten years and come from a big family so looking after, teaching and assisting children/teenagers comes naturally to me.
As part of my teaching I have been sent to do many courses to assist students who are provided teaching in a Unit. This training included assisting students with autism, dyslexia, dyspraxia. I have also worked with students with Down syndrome and many other students with additional needs. I volunteered in my local area for a camp called ‘ability rocks’ - this camp provided a space for those with additional needs for two hours to interact, play and to challenge themselves in various ways. I have volunteered at many Easter and summer camps over the year with children/teenagers with additional needs.
I have had experience babysitting young children since I was 15 years of age. Some recurring and others on a one-off causal basis. I qualified as a secondary school teacher in when I was 21, so I have had the privilege of working with teenagers for the last 11 years. I worked in a primary school for a few months also - working with children 5-13. I have volunteered at many camps over the years working with students 4-18.
In Ireland I have been tutoring since I started teaching in 2014. I am passionate about people developing their oral skills and written skills. I have a keen interest in poetry, story writing and personal essay writing. Watching people develop their creative abilities do so in a relaxed and safe environment is a pivotal part of my tutoring experience.
